Oversized Collar Dress

Oversized Collar Dress

When kids know exactly what they want, it can sometimes be a challenge.

But not in her case. She knows exactly what she wants when it comes to clothing, so much so that it’s the best thing that can happen for me. She tells me which fabrics she likes and in which colors, she explains in great detail how the pattern should be and what is supposed to be in each part, and she even shows me pictures she found online to illustrate exactly how it needs to come out. All that’s left for me to do is simply sew and add the finishes the way I like them.

When she described the dress and I already imagined the entire pattern at its sewing stages, I realized that this dress is so beautiful and compliments almost any figure.

We have here a unique collar which sits on the throat and closes with a button at the neckline in back. There are additional gathers which add both beauty and fabric to the width of the dress in order to achieve a loose fitting summer pattern. And of course a loose pattern. All you need to do to create it is use a basic pattern and expand it at the sides.

At the opening in the back as well as at the sleeve openings, I inserted bias tape which I made myself from the same fabric as the dress. I really love to sew finishes using bias tape because it provides a clean, precise finish which doesn’t look artificial. Therefore, when preparing bias tape from the same fabric as the clothing itselve it provides the best results.

And believe me, it’s much easier to prepare your own bias tape than it is to look for ready made bias tape that is close enough in color, or alternatively to try other finishes.

At the bottom, the very end, we added a rounded hem which gives a nice touch and, by the way, also provides a certain illusion of height, more than that of a regular hem.

The fabric of the dress is cotton viscose, the nicest feeling there is. It’s true that it creases fairly easily and it’s neccesary to iron it, especially after laundry, but it’s so pleasant feeling on the body, and light and airy, that it’s definitely worth it. Of course you can sew this pattern from any type of fabric that has a nice fall, whether it’s cotton, cotton jean, viscose, chiffon or symphony.

In short- DO try this at home!!

Waiting to see your stunning clothing and of course meet you in our courses.

Best wishes and lots of pretty clothing,

Rivka
