How to Easily Sew Stretch Fabrics on a Domestic Machine

So honestly, which is better? To sew clothing with stretch (knitted) fabrics, or to sew with woven fabrics? Truthfully, the question isn’t which is better but rather what’s more convenient or appropriate for the garment that we want to achieve by the end. Every type of fabric has advantages and disadvantages, and of course the characteristics which determine whether they are appropriate or not appropriate for certain garments.

I personally prefer woven fabrics. I like the way they look worn, the way they fall, the way they feel and I also prefer working with them. However, when I don’t have much time or when I want a garment which won’t require ironing, or simple every day clothing, I use stretch fabrics, which are essentially any fabric that stretches, such as- tricot, symphony, lycra, jersey blends, etc.

Stretch fabrics are usually easier to sew, but they have one significant problem: working with them on a domestic machine is more complicated. Does that mean we should give up on them?

Definitely not! I’ve created a video for you guys with a few simple tips which will help elevate your ability to sew stretch fabrics on your domestic machine.

Enjoy!
